Canada’s Civil Society Platform for the G8/G20 Conference

A group of some 50 Canadian civil society organisations came together under the Make Poverty History banner to endorse a joint platform for submission to the G8/G20 Summit to be held in Huntsville, Ontario, from June 25-27, 2010.
The platform is an important and timely reminder to world leaders not to renege on the MDG targets and aid commitments, and also to address the disparities in global governance that underlie so many of these challenges as well as global climate change. The fact that it is endorsed by many civil society groups also provides an important clue for action in Europe, where it is important to ensure that civil society can speak with a collective voice on global issues when appropriate without losing the strength of its diversity and public engagement.
