OPHI Launch New Measure of Poverty to be used by UNDP

The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative has developed a new multidimensional poverty index that takes into account health, education and standard of living. This provides a more precise analysis of the nature and intensity of poverty that will be used by UNDP in its annual report due in October. News media are already picking up the fact that it identifies poverty in 8 states of India as worse than many countries in Africa, another example of what we mean by a multi polar world in which rich and poor are not defined by country but by deprivation and inequity.
