Jimmy Gideyi has been on free antiretroviral generic drugs manufactured in India since 2004, when he was confirmed HIV positive. In the past decade, the 56-year-old man has received a constant supply of the drugs, which are almost 10 times cheaper than branded ones, thanks to the humanitarian organisation, MSF (Doctors Without Borders).
First meeting of the European Health Policy Forum

Hosted by the Government of Andorra, in Andorra la Vella, 9-11 March 2011, the Forum's first meeting will launch the Health 2020 process. It will be attended by national delegations of secretaries of state, deputy ministers, directors-general for health and chief medical officers, and technical experts.

On 25 and 26 November 2010, government officials from across the European Region were brought together in Oslo, Norway at the UNDESA/WHO Regional High-level Consultation in the European Region on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases to discuss and provide input to the preparations for the 2011 High Level Meeting convened by the United Nations General Assembly. We are now seeking comments from all stakeholders in Europe on the proceedings of the Consultation in the European Region on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases.
DG SANCO: Renewed Commitment of Stakeholders to Combat Overweight and Obesity-Related Health Issues

Over half the EU adult population is now overweight or obese according to the "Health at a Glance: Europe 2010" report published by the European Commission and the OECD on 7 December. Yesterday, the European-level umbrella organisations, ranging from the food industry, health organisations and other civil society NGOs, who are members of the European Commission's Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health agreed to step up action to tackle the growing problem of overweight and obesity related health problems.

The European Parliament approved on Wednesday (16 February) laws to curb sales of counterfeit medicines, which are increasing around 15% a year in Europe and rampant on the Internet -- Euractiv.com reports
