The European Forum Alpbach and the Institute of Social Medicine, Center for Public Health at the Medical University of Vienna present the Summer School “European Health Care and Social Systems in Transition”, which will take place in Alpbach/Austria from 18 to 25 August, 2011. The Summer School will take place as part of the “European Forum Alpbach”, an international interdisciplinary conference.
The summer school will provide specific training for young health care professionals and enable them to build an international network. Up to 25 candidates will be selected from applications received for the Summer School.
SYLLABUS
The course will:
- provide participants with an overview of the economic, financial and organizational concepts of health and social systems
- introduce participants to the diverse influencing factors and processes which form the health and social systems, such as social and epidemiological data, legal frameworks or drug authorization regulations
- understand and analyse the interrelationships of health and social systems and identify challenges on the local, national and European levels
- discuss possible solutions to previously identified problems by tapping the professional and systemic backgrounds of the participants.
REQUIREMENTS
The summer school is geared towards graduate and post-graduate students as well as young health professionals from all relevant backgrounds, including but not limited to medicine, economics, law, public health and social security institutions. No limit on age or professional background applies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Proficiency in English (European level C1) is required. Please note that participants need to be able follow group discussions, express their own opinion, present a case-study and complete a multiple choice final exam.
FEES AND SCHOLARSHIPS
The participation fee of EUR 2.000,- includes: 50 hours of lectures and group exercises, course material, lunch and refreshments, social events and free participation in all events of the European Forum Alpbach (www.alpbach.org) as far as the course schedule allows. Travel and accommodation costs have to be covered by the participants.
A limited number of scholarships will be available for participants, who submit a conclusive motivation letter and CV and fulfill the general participation requirements. Preference will be given to participants from the CEE/SEE region.
